One week to go!

One week, and I will be off my ship in Monte Carlo and flying home to Tulsa!
Home Monday evening after 4 months away, and on the Thursday we will be in the 5er on a 2 week trip...I can't wait to get home to my DW, and start doing what I stayed away for 4 months to pay for!

RE: Utah campground recommendation?

zmotorsports--DH and I will be staying at Portal also. We'll be there at about the same time that you will--perhaps we'll meet up.
Regarding Watchman in Zion--we had planned to stay there, but they were closing for the season in October. I don't remember the exact date though. If you are thinking about staying there, then contact the National Park Service to check on reservations. I found their phone number at www.recreation.gov.

RE: Are You A Licker Or A Chucker?

DH loves yogurt (I LOATHE it--it's a texture thing!) and he gives the lids to the dogs. He also allows them to lick the dregs that are left in the cup. It is hilarious to watch our Cairn Terrier and Westie try to get the last little bits of yogurt. They walk around with the cups stuck on their noses! I guess you can put DH in the "licker" camp--even though it is the dogs doing the licking! :B

RE: Using Kebamos Recipes Questions

There are very few of us (with perhaps the exception of Ol'Blue and Cruzette) who really design their own recipes. I've posted recipes before and they are ones that I have gotten from another source such as a cookbook or a newspaper article or from a cooking website. None of them are original. Karl isn't doing anything different than the great majority of us do. He is passing along recipes that he finds interesting and thinks that we may find interesting.
I do make every recipe before I share them with anyone--whether it be on the forum or with my coworkers. I have tried some recipes that sound interesting to me and sometimes they totally bomb. It is my choice to try out those recipes first. If Karl wants to post the recipes and not try them, then that is his perogative. Just ignore his posts or take them in the spirit that they are being sent.
There is no need to resort to being mean to someone just because they may or may not try the recipes before posting them. I too have sworn off of posting on the forum in the past because someone was very harsh with one of my posts. If we all followed the adage of "if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all", then this forum would be a lot nicer place. My DH tells me to get a tougher hide, but I prefer to stay the nice person that I think I tend to be most days.

RE: Best Of Sirius On XM Satellite Radio Has Now Started

It would be nice if I could get the PGA channel (golf) on my Sirius... might be enough to make me renew/activate the radios I have sitting idle now (Sirius). I had 90 days of free XM and all I liked was the golf. With our expired (free) Sirius we just have not figured out what their real best price might be or how to get it yet...

RE: Utah campground recommendation?

DH and I will be staying in an RV park in Hurricane, Utah. It is called Cottam's Willowind RV Park and they allow pets. We are planning to take ourtwo terrors (aka terriers) with us. It is a longer drive to Bryce, but many of the RV parks will be closed (or in the midst of closing) by the time we are planning to travel in November.
Check www.rvparkreviews.com for reviews of campgrounds. The one that we are planning to stay at had good reviews and they were very nice when I talked to them on the phone. Also, be sure to check when they close. Some of them were closing around October 15th and Ruby's was around October 31st.

RE: Winter is near

Johnna--DH and I are heading out your way in about 3 weeks. We can hardly wait! We're not too worried about snow since I grew up in Nebraska and DH in England. We do hope that it doesn't snow too much for us to daytrip down the to north rim of the Grand Canyon.

could I be THIS lucky?

I fly home Oct 20th. We start our 2 week road trip on the 24th....we will be doing a LOT of miles starting in Tulsa and driving through TX, NM, AZ, UT, and back to Tulsa
Can I believe Diesel prices are going down!!!! If I only knew it was this easy...spend four months away at sea, and just let the price come down.
Some one is smiling...I hope I have not cursed myself now.
Anyhooo....just musing out loud as I sit at anchor off the Italian town of Sorrento.

RE: Need help trying to get stubborn dog...

Thank you for the advice on how to fix my dog, but I wasn't the one who was asking for advice. I was trying to help the OP with their dog. I don't have anyone (ie. family, neighbors, kids, etc.) to rely on for anything. Perhaps you are lucky enough to have that support network, but I am not.
To the OP, I am sorry that this thread got hijacked. Being a librarian, I was truly trying to help you find some resources to solve YOUR problem. My comments about my Cairn Terrier's quirks were meant as an aside. Best of luck to you.

RE: Why???

Why is the act of getting on the 'plane called "pre-boarding"? Isn't that the 2 hours you spent in the terminal PRIOR to getting to the gate????

RE: Need help trying to get stubborn dog...

chuckster11, my Cairn Terrier did the same thing with the snow shovel when we lived in Nebraska! She broke her leash once while I was shoveling! Since we moved to Oklahoma, we have to shovel snow once in a while, but not nearly as often as in Lincoln!
Regarding the comment that I am not the pack leader and need a second person to help keep her from biting the mower's wheels. I am the pack leader in everything except the mower. Since DH is at sea 8 months of the year, I don't have anyone else to help me with her. I can't handle the mower and the dog at the same time. If I stop the mower to correct her, then she just starts up again when I start the mower. (Believe me, I've tried it.) I almost have her trained now to keep her from attacking it. I make a noise "OY!!!" and point at her to get away from the mower. It works most of the time. It isn't just our mower that she attacks--she tries to attack the neighbor's mowers too. I make her come inside while they mow--which is a BIG punishment for her.
A part of it is being a terrier--she is very territorial and she sees the mower as infringing on her yard.

RE: Need help trying to get stubborn dog...

I would highly recommend Cesar Milan's books. He instructs people about how to be the "pack leader" He has two books in print and both are available from Amazon.com.
1. Cesar's Way: The Natural, Everyday Guide to Understanding and Correcting Common Dog Problems, ISBN: 0307337979. Cost: $7.00 to $11.16 on Amazon.
2. Be the Pack Leader: Use Cesar's Way to Transform Your Dog . . . and Your Life, ISBN: 0307381676, Cost $11.16
I learned how to obedience train dogs as a 4Her. Your local county extension office might have books on dog training. Even though I know how to train my dogs, I still use some of the techniques that I see in Cesar's show--with good results.
The one thing that I haven't been able to break Nellie (our Cairn Terrier) of doing is attacking the lawnmower. She bites the tires every time I start up the motor. I even have bite marks on the tires! She and Izzy (our Westie) are terriers, so they are a bit more stubborn. If you persist and are consistent with the obedience training, you will get results.

RE: Zucchini Bread YUM!!!!!!!!!

I made two loaves of this bread a couple of weeks ago and froze both of them. I was planning to use them when DH and I go camping in October. I love zucchini bread, but I had never made it myself. Boy, am I ever glad that I did make this bread! Today is our monthly birthday party celebration at work. I had planned to bring a key lime pie, but I never got it to raise last night. I didn't have any eggs (used my remaining ones in the pie), so Plan B was to sacrifice one of my loaves of zucchini bread. I just tasted one end of it as I sliced it in preparation for the party. It is FANTASTIC!! I'm definitely going to be baking some more loaves of ths bread this weekend! :) YUM!
